When all the days I have are past, all the memories are made, there is only one wish I have. That wish is to be considered alongside many other great men who are simply known as dad. There is no other title I need, no other words to describe who I am. If God were to take me today I would be okay with all that He has given me because He saw fit to make this imperfect man a father. For it is my children who complete me, who make my life whole. But it was another man who taught me the meaning of fatherhood. My dad Tom is my mentor. He is man of quiet strength and wisdom, who always took a back seat to my mom Alice, the five kids and eventually to too many grandkids and great grandchildren to keep count. But it was his front seat view of life that taught me that the only real goal I should have is to be a good father. I love today’s quote because it describes my dad in so few words but hits the nail on the head when I think of how he did it. And now with whatever days I have left I can only hope to honor my Dad by striving to be half the man he is. Happy Father’s Day, Dad. Happy Father’s Day to all the men who are lucky to be called Dad!
